About the Artist
Boone, North Carolina artist Nysie Hurst finds her deepest inspiration in the shifting light and layered color of the Blue Ridge Mountains she calls home. A former science educator, she came to painting after a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, turning to art as a way to navigate grief, uncertainty, and a changing body.
Over time, that practice has evolved into a vibrant, story‑driven body of work that balances observation, emotion, and resilience, using color and movement to honor the beauty of everyday moments.
Her ongoing Sunrise Series, inspired by the brilliant, otherworldly dawns she often witnesses from her bedroom window, extends this exploration—transforming the challenges of MS into luminous meditations on hope, presence, and the quiet magic of a new day.
